The Haddonfield Lions Club is one of over 45,000 active Lions Clubs - making it part of the largest service organization in the world. When asked by Helen Keller to become "Knights of the Blind", the Lions Club International began working to help the blind and do what it could to eradicate preventable blindness. Lions Clubs also take an active interest in their communities, projects to benefit youth, and to help the less fortunate.
In 2005, tournament founder Sam Donnellon, approached the Haddonfield Lions Club about taking on the Lizzy Haddon Invitational as one of its fundraisers. In 2006, the first tournament under the Lion's banner took place with 60 teams in attendance. The prospect of finding enough volunteers to cover 9 courts and over 100 games - on Mother's Day weekend no less - was daunting, but in true Lion fashion, the club rose to the occasion. And had fun doing it! Go to Lions Projects to see some of the organizations that will benefit from the funds raised by this year's tournament.
